My '02 Savage had some seepage at the gas cap even when the tank was half full. Don't know if other caps are identical, but mine has a flat upper gasket that seats against the top opening with a couple screws in the cap that hold things together. I disassembled the cap and shimmed under the lower locking tabs with .002 shim stock cut to match and keep them in place. This raises the lower locking tabs in the body of the cap requiring slight additional downward force on the cap to lock it to the tank. Filled the tank .... no more seepage--several fillups and counting. ......Krug
